The Role

Tesla is seeking an EMC Engineer, Design and Validation, to work on sophisticated automotive electronic products for mass production. This role will support product design, debugging, and validation testing for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for current and next generation Tesla products.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design teams in all phases of product design, from the concept and architecture definition, development, validation testing, and introduction into production; as well as subject matter expert with suppliers.
• Provide direction in the areas of schematic and circuit board layout design for EMC, product packaging and assembly, and cable design for RF shielding.
• Lead EMC troubleshooting efforts, identify issue root cause and work with design team for permanent solutions.
• Perform product risk assessment reviews for EMC and identify applicable EMC tests to satisfy EMC homologation, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams for vehicle/component homologation and validation testing readiness.
• Lead vehicle and component level EMC testing, review, analyze and interpret EMC results.
• Tailor test method and tools for product specific design, support research and study DoE with necessary test tooling and instrumentation.
• Develop and validate EMC test setups for emissions and immunity per test methods such as CISPR25, ISO-11452-2, -4, ISO-7637-2, -3, ISO-10605, IEC 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6, -21.
• EMC test system integration for vehicle and component level

Requirements

• Bachelor’s in electrical engineering
• Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics, including details such as component resonances, power devices switching behavior, leakage reactance, plane resonances, and effects of dielectric constant variability.
• Solid understanding of electromagnetic theory applied to EMC design and testing.
• Working knowledge of instruments required for EMC testing such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, antennas, coupling clamps, field probes, ESD simulators, etc.
• Experience performing EMC testing. Desirable EMC testing for automotive.
• Hands-on experience debugging radiated and conducted emissions and immunity issues.
• Hands-on experience with design modifications, including soldering components, assembly of wiring harnesses and fixtures.
• Truly self-driven, focused, and hands-on individual to solve engineering problems and deliver assigned tasks; 
• Vehicle Manufacturer work experience of validation engineer is preferred;
• Good knowledge of non-automotive EMC standards ispreferred.
